1)Dhanush artillery gun clears final test, ready for induction:- India’s first indigenous, long-range artillery gun Dhanush has successfully passed its final test at Pokhran, Rajasthan.

It has been developed by Ordnance Factory Board (OFB), Kolkata based on requirements of Indian Army and manufactured by Jabalpur-based Gun Carriage Factory (GCF).

2)The World Oceans Day is being observed every year on 8th June to raise global awareness of current challenges faced by the international community in connection with the oceans.

3)5 countries elected as non-permanent members of UNSC:- South Africa, Indonesia, Dominican Republic, Germany and Belgium as non-permanent members of UN Security Council (UNSC).

They will have two-year term beginning January 1, 2019.

ABOUT UNSC:- It has 15 members, including five permanent ones with the power of veto(USA,UK,RUSSIA,FRANCE,CHINA).

10 non-permanent members are elected for two-year terms each. Its powers include establishment of peacekeeping operations, establishment of international sanctions, and authorization of military action through UNSC resolutions. It is only UN body with authority to issue binding resolutions to member states.

4)Global Peace Index 2018: India ranks 136th:- India was ranked 136th among 163 countries in Global Peace Index 2018 that was released by Sydney-based think tank Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP).

Iceland is the most peaceful country.
Syria was the least Peaceful.

5)Berne Convention: India submits declaration :- World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) has notified declaration submitted by Indian relating to Article II and III of Appendix to Paris Act (1971) related to Berne Convention for Protection of Literary and Artistic Works.

India has been member of Berne Convention since April 1928.

It has been submitting declaration as per Article II and III of Appendix from time to time.

ABOUT THE CONVENTION:- 

Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works (Berne Convention) is international copyright agreement that mandates equal treatment of copyrighted works by signatories, known as Berne Union. It was adopted in 1886 in Berne, Switzerland. The convention requires signatory member countries to recognize copyrighted literary or artistic works in same way that its national copyrights are recognized.

6)Friendship Medal: China awards its first highest state honour to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

China awarded its first highest state honour Friendship Medal to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

7)India’s Sunil Chhetri becomes joint second highest international goal scorer:- India’s talismanic football team captain Sunil Chhetri (33) became joint second highest international goal scorer among active players along with Argeentine superstar Lionel Messi.

8)Qingdao declaration: SCO summit adopts declaration calling for 3-year plan to combat terrorism.

The 18th Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit concluded with the adoption of the Qingdao declaration. It was adopted by leaders of China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, India (represented by Prime Minister Narendra Modi) and Pakistan.

WHat Else India Did in its First SCO Summit:- 

India refused to endorse China’s ambitious One Belt, One Road (OBOR) project as part of Qingdao Declaration at the 18th SCO summit.

Prime Minister Modi floated concept of SECURE: ‘S’ for security for citizens, ‘E’ for economic development, ‘C’ for connectivity in the region, ‘U’ for unity, ‘R’ for respect of sovereignty and integrity, and ‘E for environment protection.
