1)34 global technology firms sign Cybersecurity Tech Accord:- 34 leading global technology firms including Facebook, Microsoft, HP, ARM, Cisco, and Oracle have signed Cybersecurity Tech Accord to work together on cybersecurity issues.

The participant companies view Tech Accord as Digital Geneva Convention.

Four Principles of Cybersecurity Tech Accord:-


  • Protect users and customers everywhere 
  • Oppose cyberattacks on innocent citizens and enterprises 
  • Empower users, customers and developers to strengthen cybersecurity 
  • Partner with each other and like-minded groups to enhance cybersecurity.




The four principles of Cybersecurity Tech Accord aimed at advancing online security and resiliency across globe. Signatory companies agreed to mount stronger defence against cyberattacks.

They pledged not to help governments launch cyberattacks against innocent citizens or enterprises.

2)Government launches Study in India programme to attract foreign students:- The Ministry of Human Resources Development (HRD) in collaboration with Ministry of External Affairs has approved ‘Study in India’ programme to attract students to pursue higher education in India.

Objectives:- 


  • Encourage more foreign students to choose India as destination for higher education. 
  • Double India’s market share of global education exports from less than 1% to 2%. 
  • Improve global ranking of Indian educational institutes.


3)The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has introduced updated ‘QR code’ for offline Aadhaar verification to strengthen its privacy measures during usage.

It can be used for offline user verification without disclosing 12-digit aadhar identification number. The new QR code comes with photo and can be used in offline mode to safeguard against any tampering of documents.

QR code (Quick Response code) is two-dimensional (matrix) machine-readable bar code.

4)World heritage day:- Every year, 18th April is celebrated Worldwide as World Heritage Day to create awareness about Heritage among communities.

2018 theme: Heritage for Generations.

In 1982, the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) announced, 18 April as the “World Heritage Day”, approved by the General Assembly of UNESCO in 1983.

As of 2018, India has 36 world heritage sites, the sixth most of any country.
Italy leads with 53 sites followed by China with 52 sites.

5)Draft of National clean air programme:- The Environment Ministry has come out with a draft national action plan proposing multiple strategies to reduce air pollution.

Objectives of NCAP:


  • To augment and evolve an effective and a proficient ambient air quality monitoring network across the country to ensure comprehensive and reliable database.
  • To have efficient data dissemination and a public outreach mechanism for timely measures for prevention and mitigation of air pollution.
  • To have a feasible management plan for prevention, control and abatement of air pollution.


Measures to be taken by MoEFCC under NCAP:- 

augmenting the air quality monitoring network, identification of alternative technology for real-time monitoring, setting up of 10 city super network, indoor air pollution monitoring and management and air pollution health impact studies.

Other measures include air quality forecasting system, issuance of notification on dust management, a three-tier mechanism for review, assessment and inspection for implementation and a national emission inventory.

6)National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions (NCMEI):- The Supreme Court has ruled all questions relating to conferring minority status on educational institutions are to be decided by the National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions (NCMEI) and quashed the order of the Calcutta high court, which had said the body had no original jurisdiction on the issue.

Let's Understand what was the Verdict  of  SC?


  • NCMEI has the power to decide any question that might arise, which relate directly or indirectly, with respect to the status of an institution as a minority educational institution.
  • As per Section 11 of the Act, NCMEI could declare an establishment as a minority educational institution “at all stages.”
  • Only the Commission has the power to decide on granting a ‘no objection’ certificate to an institution that wanted to convert into a minority institution.


The National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions was set up in 2004.

The Commission is a quasi-judicial body and has been endowed with the powers of a Civil Court.
It is to be headed by a Chairman who has been a Judge of the High Court and three members are to be nominated by Central Government.

7)Integration of e-SANAD portal and NAD – National Academic Depository:- In a bid to make education system in India more transparent, the integration of e-SANAD portal and NAD – National Academic Depository has been launched by the Union HRD Ministry.

e-SANAD:- e-Sanad is a project aimed at online submission/verification of documents with an ultimate object to extend contact less, cashless, faceless and paperless document attestation service for apostille and normal attestation to applicants in India (to be extended to Indians residing abroad as well in a phased manner).



The project is being implemented by NIC in coordination with CBSE, States/UTs and the Ministry of External Affairs in a phased manner.

NAD:-National Academic Depository (NAD) is a 24X7 online store house of all academic awards viz.certificates, diplomas, degrees, mark-sheets etc. duly digitised and lodged by academic institutions / boards / eligibility assessment bodies.

10)NASA’s planet hunter blasts off to Space :-  NASA Blasted off its newest planet hunting spacecraft, TESS, a $337 million satellite that aims to scan 85% of the skies for exoplanets where life may exist.
