1)Brazzaville declaration signed to protect world’s largest tropical peatland:- The Brazzaville declaration was singed to promote better management and conservation world’s largest tropical peatlands-Cuvette Centrale region in Congo Basin from unregulated land use and prevent its drainage and degradation.

It was signed jointly by Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Republic of Congo and Indonesia on the sidelines of Third Partners Meeting of Global Peatlands Initiative held in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo.

Peatlands are wetlands that contain mixture of decomposed organic material, partially submerged in layer of water, lacking oxygen. The complex biodiversity of peatlands means they are home to variety of species. They are great Carbon Stocks.

Their high carbon content makes them uniquely vulnerable to incineration if they are drained.

ABOUT Global Peatlands Initiative:- GPI is multi-partner United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) initiative launched at the Global Landscapes Forum in Marrakesh in 2016.

2)Government launches E-Tribes India on e-commerce platforms:- The Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India, (TRIFED), under Ministry of Tribal Affairs has launched E-Tribes India banners on e-commerce platforms like Amazon, Snapdeal, Paytm & GeM.



It also launched TRIFED’s websites-www.tribesindia.com, www.trifed.in and Retail Inventory Software and M-commerce app as part of Digital India Initiative.

3)Surat: First district to have 100% solar powered health centres:- Surat district in Gujarat become first in country to have 100% solar powered Primary Health Centers (PHCs).

The solarification of all PHCs in Surat district will bring down electricity bill by 40% and also help fight global warming.

4)Government releases Draft policy on Defence Production:-

Objectives of Policy:-

Make India self-reliant in defence production as well as fulfil demand of friendly countries. Achieve turnover of Rs.1,70,000 crore in military goods and services by 2025 by promoting domestic defence industry.

Achieve export of Rs. 35,000 crore in military equipment and services by 2025.

The policy identifies 12 military platforms and weapons systems for production in India to achieve aim of self-reliance. They are fighter aircraft, warships, land combat vehicles, missile systems, medium lift and utility helicopters, gun systems, small arms, ammunition and explosives etc

5)U.S., India hold naval training:- Indian Navy’s Talwar class frigate INS Tarkash carried out a “greeting and training” exercise on Sunday with the U.S. Navy’s Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group (TRCSG) which was until now involved in operations against the Islamic State in the Arabian Gulf.

6)ISA and India sign the Host Country Agreement today - ISA a juridical personality now :- 

The International Solar Alliance (ISA) and the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), signed the Host Country Agreement.


The Agreement will give ISA a juridical personality and gives it power to contract, to acquire and dispose off movable and immovable properties, to institute and defend legal proceedings.

Under this agreement, ISA shall enjoy such privileges, applicable tax concessions and immunities as are necessary for ISA’s Headquarter to independently discharge its function and programmes.

The Framework Agreement coming into force on 6th December 2017, the ISA became the first international intergovernmental treaty based organization to be headquartered in India. ISA celebrated its founding day on 11th March, 2018.

7)National Conference on Down Syndrome’ was organised by the National Trust under Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.

About Down Syndrome:- Down Syndrome is a chromosomal condition associated with intellectual and learning disabilities. Delayed development and behavioural problems are often reported in children with it.



It is caused when there is one extra chromosome in the 21st Pair of Chromosome out of 23 Pairs.

A book entitled “Twilights Children” based on the lives of person suffering from Down Syndrome was released on the occasion.
