1)Cabinet extends term of commission on sub-categorisation of OBCs:- The Union Cabinet has approved second and final extension of term of Commission constituted to examine issue of Sub-categorization of Other Backward Classes in Central List for period of twelve weeks upto June, 2018.

The Commission was constituted with approval of President under article 340 of Constitution in October, 2017. It is headed by Justice (Retd.) G. Rohini.

The commission was tasked to examine extent of inequitable distribution of benefits of reservation among castes included in broad category of OBCs, especially with reference to OBCs included in the Central list.

2)Cabinet approves North-East Industrial Development Scheme 2017:- The Union Cabinet has approved North East Industrial Development Scheme (NEIDS), 2017 to promote employment in North Eastern Region states including Sikkim.

Purpose of NEIDS 2017:-


  • Promote Industrialization
  • Promote Employment
  • Provide Benefits to Industrial Units


3)mKeralam :- Kerala Govt. has become the First State to develop an app which can access thousand govt. schemes.

Initially it will start with 100 services and lates expand to 1000 services.

Last Year Kerala also became the first Indian State to declare Internet a basic human right.

4)Indigenous technology tested on BrahMos:- 
Name of the Technology : Seeker Technology
So far the seeker, a critical technology in missiles, came from Russia.

Seeker technology, determines the accuracy of a missile.

5)‘water from air’ competition :- The two year competition is to create a device that extracts a minimum of 2,000 litres of water per day from air using 100% renewable energy.

An Indian startup that has developed a technology to create water from air is among the five Finalists in this prestigious global competition.

Uravu, a Hyderabad based company, will compete with four other companies in the final round of the Water Abundance XPRIZE.

About XPRIZE:- It is Los Angeles based , which designs incentive competitions to solve humanity’s big challenges.
