1)Cabinet approves Prime Minister Research Fellows Scheme:- The Union Cabinet has approved implementation of Prime Minister’s Research Fellows (PMRF) Scheme for doctoral students pursuing research in areas related to technology.

It aims to realize importance of innovation and technology for progress and development of the nation.

The fellowship scheme was announced in the Budget Speech 2018-19. It will be implemented for period of seven years beginning 2018-19 at total cost of Rs.1650 Crores.

2)Cabinet approves Ratification of Minamata Convention on Mercury:-

Minamata Convention on Mercury :- The Convention is global treaty that aims to protect human health and the environment from anthropogenic emissions and releases of mercury and mercury compounds.
It derives its name after Japanese city Minamata which had went through devastating incident of mercury poisoning.

3)About Lord Bahubali (Gommateshwara):- 88th Mahamastakabhisheka (head anointing ceremony) of the monolithic statue of Lord Bahubali has begun at Shravanabelagola, Karnataka.

The mastakabhisheka is held once in 12 years. One of the biggest festivals for the Jain community, it honors Lord Bahubali, a revered Jain icon.

Bahubali is also called Gommateshwara because of the Gommateshwara statue dedicated to him.

Shravanabelagola in the Hassan district, Karnataka state, India. It was built in around 981 A.D. and is one of the largest free-standing statues in the world.



4)The Union Cabinet has approved the proposal for closure of Autonomous Bodies, namely, Rashtriya Arogya Nidhi (RAN) and Jansankhya Sthirata Kosh (JSK) and the functions are proposed to be vested in Department of Health & Family Welfare (DoHFW).

5)Cabinet approves putting ILO recommendation before Parliament:- Cabinet approves placing new recommendation adopted by International Labour Organization (ILO) concerning “The Employment and Decent Work for Peace and Resilience (Recommendation No-205) before Parliament.

The International Labour Conference of ILO at its 106th Session held in Geneva in June, 2015 adopted the Recommendation No-205. India supported the adoption of Recommendation.

The Recommendation No. 205 is applicable to all workers and jobseekers, and to all employers, in all sectors of the economy affected by crisis situations arising from conflicts and disasters and to workers engaged in crisis response, including in the immediate response.

6)Committee constituted by Karnataka government recommends separate state flag:- Nine member committee constituted by Karnataka government has recommended separate state flag.

It submitted report on designing separate flag for the state and providing a legal standing for it. It has discounted any constitutional or legal hurdles for it.
