1)ONGC to acquire Government’s entire 51.11% stake in HPCL:- The Union Government and state-run oil explorer ONGC clinched deal for acquisition of government’s 51.11% stake in Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (HPCL).

Through this acquisition, ONGC is gaining midstream and downstream presence and access to marketing network. This acquisition will make ONGC India’s first vertically integrated oil major, having presence across value chain in sector.

2)An app to report roadkill in wildlife habitats:- Now, a mobilebased application, ‘Roadkills’, launched on January 21 by the Wildlife Conservation Trust, will help citizens report such wildlife deaths by uploading geotagged photographs to a public forum.



3)The second indigenously built offshore patrol vessel (OPV) named Vijaya built by Larsen and Toubro (L&T) Shipyard for Indian Coast Guard (ICG) was launched in Tamil Nadu.

The first OPV named Vikarm as part of the deal was launched in October 2017. It was country’s first-ever such defence craft to be built in private shipyard.

4)President felicitates 112 first ladies:- President Ram Nath Kovind has felicitated 112 exceptional women achievers at Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi. These women achievers ‘FIRST LADIES’ are those who are first to set milestone of achievement in their respective fields.

5)India will be hosting the International Dam Safety Conference - 2018 at Thiruvananthapuram on January 23-24.

Dam safety conferences are organized as an annual event under the Dam Safety Rehabilitation and Improvement Project (DRIP) project being run by the Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation  (MoWR,RD & GR) in the seven states of Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, and Uttarakhand.

DRIP PrOJECT :- This is a World Bank Aided Project which aims at  the rehabilitation of old dams in the country that may be experiencing distress and are in need of attention for ensuring their structural safety and operational efficiency. 

6)‘Bharat Ke Veer’ :- It is a web portal and mobile application initiative with a corpus fund to help the families of paramilitary troopers killed in the line of duty.

This website is technically supported by National Informatics Centre (NIC) and powered by State Bank of India.

Now the news is that The government has launched an official anthem for “Bharat Ke Veer”.

The anthem is sung and composed by singer Kailash Kher.
