Q. What are the differences between Tropical and Temperate Cyclones??

1)Buenos Aires Declaration on Women and Trade:- For the first time in the history of the World Trade Organization, WTO members and observers have endorsed a collective initiative to increase the participation of women in trade.

In order to help women reach their full potential in the world economy, 118 WTO members and observers agreed to support the Buenos Aires Declaration on Women and Trade, which seeks to remove barriers to, and foster, women’s economic empowerment.

Important to remember is that India did not supported this move :- India, an influential WTO member, was among the minority group that chose not to endorse the move saying while it stoutly supports gender equality, it cannot concur with the view that gender is a trade-related issue.

India also observed that gender-related discussions should take place at appropriate fora and not at the WTO, which is purely a trade-related body. Otherwise, it will set a precedent to bring in other non-trade issues such as labour and environment standards into the WTO’s ambit.

2)India ranks 100th in Legatum Prosperity Index 2017:- India was ranked 100th among 149 countries on the list of prosperous countries released as part of The Legatum Prosperity Index 2017.

This index is released by Legatum institute which is london based.

3)Railways introduces Online Bill tracking system for Vendors & Contractors:- The Union Ministry of Railways has introduced Indian Railways E-Procurement System (IREPS), an online bill tracking system for vendors and contractors.

It aims to enhance transparency in the processing and settlement of bills by increasing use of information technology.

IREPS will help contractors and vendors of Indian Railways to track status of their bills. The vendor or contractor need to register with online IT platform.

4)Rajasthan becomes first state to offer e-mail IDs in Hindi:- Rajasthan has become the first state in India to launch free email addresses in Hindi for its residents. The facility will be available at [email protected] (in Devanagari script).

The initiative aims to ensure maximum participation of people towards e-governance and ensure that maximum government facilities are available in vernacular language.

5)Sri Lanka formally hands over Hambantota Port to China for 99-Year Lease:- Hambantota port is strategically located right in middle of vital energy supply lines in Indian Ocean, connecting Middle East and East Asia.



6)India to hold talks with ASEAN to extend IMT highway up to Vietnam:- India is planning to hold talks with Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries to extend India-Myanmar-Thailand (IMT) highway up to Vietnam.

As per proposals from India, the 1,360 km long IMT highway from Moreh in India to Mae-Sot in Thailand can be extended to Vietnam via Laos and Cambodia.

7)India’s first modern Scorpene Class conventional submarine, INS Kalvari, has been commissioned into Navy’s fleet.

Some Facts about INS KALVARI:- 

The diesel-electric submarine is designed by French naval defence and energy company DCNS. The submarine is named after the dreaded tiger shark, a deadly deep sea predator of the Indian Ocean.



8)Area around the Shivling of Amarnath cave declared a ‘silent zone’:-
In a bid to preserve the eco- sensitive Amarnath cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas, the National Green Tribunal has declared it a “silence zone” and prohibited religious offerings beyond the entry point.

NGT also Clarified that not entire Cave is silence zone  but ‘Only asked devotees to maintain silence in front of the Shivling’.

9)The Second UNWTO/UNESCO World Conference on Tourism and Culture is being held in Muscat, Sultanate of Oman.

Objectives and Aims of the Conference:- The conference aims to address a wide range of topics, including governance models, tourism development and protection of cultural heritage, culture and tourism in urban development and creativity, and exploring cultural landscape in tourism as a vehicle for sustainable development in destinations worldwide.

This Conference is a sequel to the First UNWTO/UNESCO World Conference on Tourism and Culture, held in Siem Reap, Cambodia in February 2015.

Remember one Important Fact :- The United Nations has declared 2017 as the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development.

The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) is the United Nations agency responsible for the promotion of responsible, sustainable and universally accessible tourism.

10)First 2+2 dialogue between India, Australia calls for open Asia-Pacific:- India and Australia held their first ‘2+2 dialogue’ in New Delhi and highlighted need to maintain Asia-Pacific region as a “free” and “open” zone.

The 2+2 dialogue model between both countries included foreign and defence secretaries.

11)SC clears 12 special courts to try cases against politicians:- The Supreme Court on Wednesday gave the green signal for  the  Centre’s  scheme  to set up 12 fast track courts to exclusively  prosecute  and dispose of 1,581 criminal cases pending against Members of Parliament and State Legislative Assemblies within a year.

The States shall, in consultation with  the High Courts concerned will make the courts operational  by March  1,2018.
