1)Women’s Reservation Bill is to be introduced in Parliament:- 



The government may introduce in Parliament the Women's Reservation Bill, which seeks to reserve one-third of seats in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies for women.

History of the Bill:- The bill was first introduced by the the United Front government in 1996 and then the Vajpayee government tabled it a few times. However, it could never be passed in any of the two Houses on all these occasions.

The Constitution (One Hundred and Eighth Amendment) Bill, 2008 seeks to reserve one-third of all seats for women in the Lok Sabha and the state legislative assemblies.

The allocation of reserved seats shall be determined by such authority as prescribed by Parliament.

Some Provisions:-

Reserve one-third of all seats for women in the Lok Sabha and the state legislative assemblies. 

One third of the total number of seats reserved for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes shall be reserved for women of those groups in the Lok Sabha and the legislative assemblies.

Rotation: Reserved seats may be allotted by rotation to different constituencies in the state or union territory.

Reservation of seats for women shall cease to exist 15 years after the commencement of this Amendment Act.

2)The 6th edition of VASTRA i.e. “VASTRA – An International Textile and Apparel Fair 2017” (VASTRA – 2017) was recently inaugurated at Jaipur.



3)NITI Aayog, International Road Federation(Geneva) ink SoI(Statement of Intent) for Intelligent Transportation Systems:-

The objective of the SoI is to create a national platform, involving all relevant Government of India stakeholders, Indian and foreign companies active in the sector, and relevant technical experts for the purpose of developing a National ITS Policy which covers the following :-


  • Traffic Management.
  • Parking Management.
  • Electronic Enforcement of Traffic Rules and Regulations.
  • Fleet Management and Monitoring.
  • Innovation in the field of ITS.
  • Education in the field of ITS.


The International Road Federation (IRF) is a nongovernmental, not-for-profit organisation with the mission to encourage and promote development and maintenance of better, safer and more sustainable roads and road networks.

4)INS Kalavari: India’s first home built submarine handed over to Indian Navy:- India’s first ingenuously built INS Kalavari submarine was handed over to Indian Navy by state-owned Mazagon Dock Limited in Mumbai, Maharashtra.

INS Kalavari is first of six Scorpion class submarines built in India under Project-75 by Mazagon Docks Limited with technology transfer from France’s DCNS (Direction des Constructions Navales Services), a naval shipbuilder.

5)Scientists from University of Manchester have created world’s first ‘molecular robot’ — millionth of a millimetre in size.
It can be used to build molecules and may help discover novel drugs.

6)India’s first electric bus service was launched at Rohtang Pass area in Himachal Pradesh.
