1)Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana:- PMMVY is implemented by the Ministry of Women & Child Development in collaboration with State Governments.

Pradhan Mantri Matritva Vandana Yojana (PMMVY), previously Indira Gandhi Matritva Sahyog Yojana (IGMSY), is a maternity benefit program run by the government of India.

It is a conditional cash transfer scheme for pregnant and lactating women of 19 years of age or above for first two live births.

It provides a partial wage compensation to women for wage-loss during childbirth and childcare and to provide conditions for safe delivery and good nutrition and feeding practices.

2)Hortinet :- APEDA has developed a mobile app- Hortinet- to allow farmers to apply on-line to facilitate their farm registration, tracking the status of application & approvals by State Government and Lab sampling by authorized Laboratories.


What is APEDA:- The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) was established by the Government of India under the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority Act 1985.

3)Ahmedabad Gets India’s First ‘World Heritage City’ Certificate:- Gujarat's commercial capital Ahmedabad was on Friday formally accorded the status of India's first World Heritage City by UNESCO.


  • The walled city of Ahmedabad, believed to be founded by Ahmed Shah some 600 years ago.
  • The walled city of Ahmedabad is first city in India to get World Heritage City status and third in Asia after Bhaktapur (Nepal) and Galle (Sri Lanka).


4)The National Nutrition Week will be observed throughout the country from 1st to 7th September. 

The theme of for year 2017 is “Optimal Infant & Young Child Feeding Practices: Better Child Health“.

The objective of this event is to intensify awareness generation on importance of nutrition for health which has an overall impact on development, productivity, economic growth and ultimately National development.

Concerns:=
Undernutrition in young children continues to be a major public health problem in India. 

The NFHS4 has not shown an encouraging improvement in the nutritional status, especially among women and children. 

As per NFHS-4 the level of underweight has decreased by 6.8% and is stunting by 9.6%. Level of anaemia has decreased by 11% as compared to NNHS-3 figures.

5)The world’s largest and powerful X-ray laser- European X-ray Free Electron Laser (XFEL) was unveiled in Hamburg, Germany.

Uses:- XFEL is like a camera and a microscope that will make it possible to observe tiny details and processes in the nano-world than ever before.

It will help to reveal and capture in images at the sub-atomic level, promising breakthroughs and revealing secrets in medicine, biology, energy, information technology and chemistry.

6)FarmerZone: The future of agriculture :- The Union Ministry of Science and Technology is planning to create FarmerZone, a collective open-source data platform for smart agriculture by using biological research and data to improve lives of small and marginal farmers.

It is envisaged that “FarmerZone” will help cater to all needs of the farmer, from dealing with climate change, weather predictions and soil, water, and seed requirements to providing market intelligence.

The FarmerZone platform will connect farmers and scientists, government officials, thought leaders in agriculture, economists and representatives from global companies who work in the big-data and e-commerce space to bring about technology-based localised agri-solutions.
