2)Rare birds return to safer, better managed Seshachalam :- 

About Seshachalam Hills := The Seshachalam Hills are hilly ranges part of the Eastern Ghats in southern Andhra Pradesh state, in southeastern India.

The ranges were formed during the Precambrian era (3.8 billion to 540 million years ago). Minerals contained in these hills include sandstone and shale interbedded with limestone.

In 2010 it was designated as a Biosphere Reserve.

3)First Kannada classic to be out in English soon:-

Kavirajamargam, the earliest available work in Kannada dating back to the 9th century AD, will now be available in English.

Kavirajamargam (way of the king of poets), authored by Srivijaya(who was in the Court of a Rashtrakuta King).

4)What do the Lingayats want? :-The Lingayats, a numerically and politically strong community of Karnataka, want to be categorised as a religious group separate from Hindus.

Followers of the 12th century social reformer- philosopher-poet Basaveshwara who defied the caste system and Vedic rituals, they argue that the premise of this rebellion was rooted in opposition to the established Hindu order.

Though Lingayats worship Shiva, they say the concept of ‘Ishta Linga’ (personal god) and rules of conduct prescribed by Basaveshwara cannot be equated to the Hindu way of life.

5)Oil Spills Cleaning made easy by IISER Team:- 
Indian Institute of Science, Education and Research (IISER) in Thiruvananthapuram who have developed a hydrophobic sorbent that can suck up oil and congeal it.

A hydrophobic material automatically becomes oil-loving and takes up oil when it comes in contact with it.

Sorbent is made by using a cheap raw material (mannitol) and cellulose pulp as a matrix. Mannitol was converted into a hydrophobic gelator.

6)Kaziranga National Park was in news due to flood situation in Assam.

Kaziranga National Park located in Assam is home to One Horned Rhinoceros. Kaziranga hosts two thirds of the one horned rhinos and is the world heritage site.

Brahmaputra river forms northern and eastern boundaries of the Kaziranga National Park and Morpha Diphlu forms the southern boundary of the Park

7)JIYO PARSI SCHEME :- The main objective of the Jiyo Parsi scheme is to reverse the declining trend of Parsi population by adopting a scientific protocol and structured interventions, stabilize their population and increase the Parsis population in India.

The Scheme is being administered by Ministry of Minority Affairs.


8)Pediatric Perimeter :- Pediatric perimeter can be used to test the eyesight of infants between 2 months and 12 months.

Currently there is no perimeter device to measure the field of vision in infants. As a result most of the eye defects developed during the infancy are only detected during the adulthood.
