1) Flash Flood was in News on 27th July :-

What is it ? : A flash flood is a rapid/sudden flooding of geomorphic low-lying areas: washes, rivers, dry lakes and basins.

Causes:- It may be caused by heavy rain associated with a severe thunderstorm, hurricane, tropical storm, or meltwater from ice or snow flowing over ice sheets or snowfields.

Flash floods may occur after the collapse of a natural ice or debris dam, or a human structure such as a man-made dam.

So it has both natural and man made reasons.

How is it different from Normal Flood:-  Flash floods are distinguished from regular floods by a timescale of less than six hours.

2) GST having negative impact on the Rag Pickers thus indirectly affecting the environment.

The tax rate on recycled plastic has increased from 5.5% to 18% post-GST, ragpicking as a livelihood is turning unviable.

Plastic recyclers, faced with the new tax, are protecting their margins by slashing prices at which they buy from thousands of waste managers and ragpickers. The price of mixed plastic is down from ₹19 per kg to around ₹13 now.

So if the ragpickers do not collect plastic, this in turn will have negative consequence on the environment.

3)Policy boosts care for blood disorders :-  The Ministry recently released a policy on the Prevention and Control of haemoglobinopathies in India.

Supported by the National Health Mission, Blood Cell and the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram, the guidelines provide for screening of pregnant women during antenatal checkup, pre-marital counselling at college level and one-time screening for variant anaemia in children.
