1)According to a Study Castor plant can reduce soil pollution:- 

Study conducted by researchers from University of Hyderabad havs shown that  Castor bean plants can prove useful in fighting soil pollution.

It was found that these plants can absorb toxic heavy metals from soil from these polluted areas due to industrial pollution.
The roots, leaves and stem of these plants from the polluted areas contain heavy metals such as lead.

It was also observed that these plants accelerate the remediation of polluted soils due to presence of some chemicals in them known as chelators which enhances the capability of the plant to accumulate heavy metals.



2)Untrained teachers get 2 years to qualify:-

The Lok Sabha has passed the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (Amendment) Bill.

The government today passed in the Lok Sabha a bill seeking to amend the Right to Education Act to allow elementary teachers time till 2019 to get acquire minimum qualifications as mandated under the 2010 law.

What was the Earlier Time Limit :- As per the existing Act which came into effect from April 1, 2010, these teachers were to acquire minimum qualifications within five years by March 31, 2015.

This gives the 8.5 lakh unqualified teachers, appointed after implementation of the Right to Education (RTE) law, another chance to get recognized degrees.

3)India Performed Poorly in the Inequality  index and the inequality report was recently released by the international NGO Oxfam and Development Finance International.

It measures the efforts of governments that had pledged to reduce inequality as part of the sustainable development goals.

It Focusses on what the govt. is doing to reduce inequality.

India's Performance and Comparisions:-


  1. India has been ranked 132 out of 152 countries.
  2. OECD countries headed by Sweden ranked the highest while Nigeria was at the bottom.
  3. The US had the highest level of inequality among developed countries, though it is the wealthiest country in history.
  4. Bhutan, known for coining the term `Gross National Happiness’, is ranked even lower than India at 143.




4)Finance Minister Arun Jaitley today released the National Trade Facilitation Action Plan and said the WTO-Trade Facilitation Agreement (TFA) coming into force on February 22, 2017 was a major milestone for the global trading system.

The NTFAP aims to achieve improvement in ease of doing business by reducing cargo release time and cost, promote paperless regulatory environment, transparent and predictable legal regime and improved investment climate through better infrastructure.

The Trade Facilitation Agreement forms part of the Bali Package agreed by members at the Ninth Ministerial Conference in Bali.
