1)Ram Nath Kovind was on Thursday declared elected as India’s 14th President polling 65.6% of the vote defeating the Opposition’s joint candidate, former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar, who secured 34% of the vote.

He is the 14th President of India.

Becomes second Dalit to occupy the post after late K.R. Narayanan.



2)Panchsheel was again in news because of  India China Standoff :-

What is Panchsheel:- The Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, known in India as the Panchsheel Treaty , are a set of principles to govern relations between states.

Their first formal codification in treaty form was in an agreement between China and India in 1954.

What are these 5 Principles:- 


  • Mutual respect for each other's territorial integrity and sovereignty.
  • Mutual non-aggression.
  • Mutual non-interference in each other's internal affairs.
  • Equality and cooperation for mutual benefit.
  • Peaceful co-existence.


3)Half of HIV-infected get treatment now: UNAIDS :=

The latest UNAIDS report, released on Thursday, reveals that more than half of all People Living with HIV (PLHIV) now have access to HIV treatment.

Further, globally AIDS-related deaths have almost halved since 2005.

What is 90-90-90 Strategy :- It is a strategy to come out of AIDS burden.

The idea behind the 90-90-90 target is to:-


  • diagnose 90% of people who are HIV positive; 
  • get 90% of the diagnosed HIV+ people on antiretroviral treatment, 
  • and 90% of those on antiretrovirals should be virally suppressed.




4)President of India inaugurates the 200th anniversary celebrations of the Paika Rebellion of Odisha (PIB) :- 

Paika uprising was in the nature of a rebellion by people of Odisha.

It was aimed at upholding the rights of the Odia people and sovereignty of Odisha.

Paika Rebellion was not only the rebellion of Paikas, it was a National War waged by ordinary people at the grassroots level who resented the dispossession of their Sovereign of his rights and the consequential repressive measures that followed.

5)FM to formally launch Pradhan Mantri Vaya Vandana Yojana (PMVVY):= 

PMVVY is a Pension Scheme announced by the Government of India exclusively for the senior citizens(above 60 Years) available from 4th May, 2017 to 3rd May, 2018.

The Scheme can be purchased offline as well as online through Life Insurance Corporation of India.

6)The Ministry of Rural Development will launch a new sub-scheme under Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM) which will be named as “Aajeevika Grameen Express Yojana (AGEY)”.

Main Objjective of the AGEY Scheme:-The main objectives of AGEY are to provide an alternative source of livelihoods to members of Self Help Groups (SHGs) under DAY-NRLM by facilitating them to operate public transport services in backward rural areas.
