1)A law, this time for Antarctica :- Antarctica —the world’s only continent without countries and citizens.

India is drafting a dedicated Antarctica policy and a law. This work is under the Ministry of Earth sciences.

India is one of the signatory to the Antarctica treaty.

What is the Antarctica Treaty :- The treaty is framed to ensure ‘in the interests of all mankind that Antarctica shall continue forever to be used exclusively for peaceful purposes and shall not become the scene or object of international discord.’

Points under the trety :-

  • Prohibits military activity, except in support of science; 
  • Prohibits nuclear explosions and the disposal of nuclear waste; 
  • Promotes scientific research and the exchange of data; and 
  • holds all territorial claims in abeyance.


One More Fact is that Maitri is the India's permanent research Station in Antarctica.

Dakshin Gangotri, the first Indian base established in 1984, has weakened and become just a supply base.

2)Kerala gets its rst total yoga village:- Kunnamthanam which became a complete yoga village with at least one member of each family in the panchayat trained in yoga.

3)PSLV will lock heavy weight Cartosat-2 into orbit today:- 

About Cartosat-2 :- The Cartosat-2 earth observation Satellite (a Remote Sensing Satellite).
satellite, weighing 712 kg, is the primary payload aboard PSLV-C38 and will be the first to be injected into orbit.

Remember that it is the Earth Observation Satellite releasing various images. It is also called Eye in the Sky.

The imagery provided by the satellite will be used for :=

  • cartographic applications, 
  • coastal land use and regulation, 
  • road network monitoring, 
  • water distribution, 
  • land use mapping and 
  • geographical information system applications. 



Cartosat-2 is designed for a lifespan of five years, according to ISRO.

4)Department of Science and Technology has launched  VAJRA (Visiting Advanced Joint Research) Faculty scheme that enables NRIs and overseas scientific community to participate and contribute to research and development in India.

The Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), a Statutory body of the Department of Science and Technology will implement the Scheme.

Under this scheme, foreign researchers abroad of Indian origin or otherwise can collaborate with faculties in public funded Indian institutions.

The researchers would receive endowments at par with those in their own countries.

5)NASA has launched world’s lightest satellite weighing only 64 grams designed by 18-year-old boy Rifath Sharook from Tamil Nadu.

The tiny satellite has been named as KalamSat after the former President APJ Abdul Kalam.

KalamSat is a 3-D printed satellite. This is the first time that 3-D printing technology is used to make satellites.

6)India's biggest Municipal Bond Project :- To finance its 24x7 water supply project, the Pune Municipal Corporation on Thursday launched India’s biggest municipal bonds programme.

Municipal bonds are debt instruments through which a corporation or municipality raises money from individuals or institutions.

There are usually two kinds of bonds

General bonds, where money is raised without mentioning the cause in particular, and

Revenue bonds, where funds are raised for income-generating projects and revenue from the projects is used to repay the buyers.

7)Under the Swachh Bharat Mission Gramin (SBM-G), rural Uttarakhand and rural Haryana have been declared as the 4th and 5th Open Defecation Free (ODF) States of India. Already, Sikkim, Himachal Pradesh and Kerala, have been declared ODF.
