1)Burrowing frogs add to diversity of Western Ghats:-
Like most amphibians, they are highly sensitive to changes in the climate.
The finding, published in the international journal Zootaxa.

2)India ratifies UN TIR Convention in a bid to Counter China’s OBOR:-

India has become the 71st nation to join the United Nations TIR (Transports Internationaux Routiers) Convention.

Aim of India in Joining TIR Convention:- India’s decision to join the convention is part of its multi-modal transport strategy that aims at integrating Indian economy with global and regional production networks through better connectivity.

Now what is TIR:-The Customs Convention on International Transport of Goods under Cover of TIR Carnets, 1975 (TIR Convention) is an international customs transit system under the auspices of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) with the widest geographical coverage. It is more than a transport convention.

At present, there are 70 parties to the convention including the European Union. The TIR is managed and developed by International Road Transport Union (IRU) which is the world road transport organisation.

3)First Air Freight Corridor flight from Kabul to India has started. This is for the direct Connectivity of India and Afghanistan and Freight transfer.

4)NASA's Orion Aircraft was in news :- 
The Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle (Orion MPCV) is an American spacecraft intended to carry a crew of four astronauts to destinations at or beyond low Earth orbit (LEO).

Currently under development by NASA for launch on the Space Launch System,

Orion is intended to facilitate human exploration of asteroids and of Mars and to retrieve crew or supplies from the International Space Station if needed.


5)India is the top remittance receiving country :- The report of the ‘One Family at a Time’ study by the UN International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) has been released. It talks about the foreign remittances.

80% of remittances are received by 23 countries, led by India, China, the Philippines, Mexico and Pakistan.

6)The World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) has released its 10th edition of the ‘Global Innovation Index (GII)’.

India’s position in the 2017 Global Innovation Index has moved up six ranks from last year to 60.

Among India’s neighbours, Sri Lanka took the 90th spot whereas Nepal was at 109th. Pakistan came in at 113 followed by Bangladesh at 114.


7)India has been re-elected to the UN’s principal organ on economic, social and environmental issues for another three-year term. India was among 18 nations to win election to the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).

Important thing is Pakistan has lost its election.

ECOSOC, one of the six main organs of the United Nations, is the principal body for coordination, policy review, policy dialogue and recommendations on economic, social and environmental issues, as well as for implementation of the internationally agreed development goals.
