1) Move to Impeach Justice Nagarjuna Reddy of Hyderabad HC:-  A Plea has been submitted in the Rajya Sabha(60 Members) for removal of Justice Nagarjuna Reddy.

Removal of judge of HC(same as  that for SC judge):= regulated by Judges enquiry Act(1968)-

i) Removal Motion signed by 100 members(if LS) or 50 members(if RS) to be given to Speaker/Chairman

ii) Speaker/Chairman may admit/refuse  the motion.

iii) If admitted then Speaker/Chairman constitute a 3 member committee to investigate the charges.

iv) Committee should consist of a) CJI/judge of SC ; b) CJ of HC; c) distinguished jurist

v) If the judge is found guilty of misbehaviour or suffering from incapacity, the House may take up the motion.

vi) After it is passed in both houses by special majority(2/3rd of Present and Voting Plus >50% of Total Membership of that house), address is presented to President for removal who finally passes the order.

No judge has been impeahed so far.

Ground for removal- proved misbehaviour or incapacity.

2) E-clinics for J&K farmers:= Service launched to double farmers’ income by 2022.

What has been done and who did it :- The Department of Agriculture, in collaboration with Centre for Agriculture and Biosciences International (CABI), has set up 15 plant clinics.

Then one more prograame :-‘Plantwise’ programme of CABI under which officials have been trained as plant doctors to diagnose various plant diseases in the Jammu region.

3)Abe-Modi plan for Africa :- 

Background : India is Holding the AfDB (African Development Bank Group)Group Meeting this year.

India is not a Founding member of AfDB but is a non-regional Member.

India and Japan unveiled a vision document for the Asia Africa Growth Corridor.

Comparing with OBOR of China:- Unlike China’s One Belt One Road (OBOR) project, about which India has raised several concerns:-

  • The Asia Africa Growth Corridor is conceived as a more open and inclusive programme that will be based on more consultations and 
  • keep people as the centre piece rather than just trade and economic ties.

4)Cabinet approves phasing out Foreign Investment Promotion Board:-

About FIPB:

The Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB), housed in the Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance, is an inter-ministerial body, responsible for processing of FDI proposals and making recommendations for Government approval.

"When FDI came from Govt. approval route then for upto 5000 crores ,permission was given by FIPB, After 5000 Crores CCEA gave the permission."

Now since more than 90% of FDI comes from Automatic route in which Govt. approval is not needed, so we no more need FIPB.

5)Defence buys model comes into force:-The government’s ambitious Strategic Partnership (SP) model for promoting Indian private industry participation in defence manufacturing has come into effect.

Under the “Strategic Partnership” model, the government will shortlist and then pick Indian companies to join forces with foreign firms to supply fighter jets, helicopters, armoured vehicles and submarines. For each platform, one private sector strategic partner will be chosen.

Seen as a major initiative, the strategic partnership model aims to create a vibrant defence manufacturing ecosystem in the country through involvement of both the major Indian corporates as well as the MSME sector.
