1)‘Good standing certiicate’ must for doctors from abroad: IMA :-

Background:- Delhi High Court took cognizance of the news that The Doctors who was barred from practising by a US court  is now treating patients in Delhi and Gurugram.

So What has happened now:- The IMA(Indian Medical Association) wants the MCI to seek ‘good standing certificate’ from foreign doctors who want to work in India.

ABOUT MCI :- The Medical Council of India was first established in 1934 under the Indian Medical Council Act, 1933.

The Council was later reconstituted under the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956 that replaced the earlier Act.

Important functions performed by the council:


  • Establishment and maintenance of uniform standards for undergraduate medical education.
  • Regulation of postgraduate medical education in medical colleges accredited by it..
  • Recognition of medical qualifications granted by medical institutions in India.
  • Recognition of foreign medical qualifications in India.
  • Accreditation of medical colleges.
  • Registration of doctors with recognized medical qualifications.
  • Keeping a directory of all registered doctors (called the Indian Medical Register).


2)About PMUY :- Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana. The scheme is being implemented by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.



Under the Scheme:-

  • The scheme provides nearly 5 Crores free LPG connection with financial assistance of Rs. 1600/- per connection to an adult woman member of BPL family identified through Socio-Economic Caste Census (SECC) data. Nearly 
  • It was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in May 2016 from Balia, Uttar Pradesh
  • PMUY is the first welfare scheme being implemented by the Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas
  • The tagline of scheme is Swachh(Clean) Indhan(Fuel), Behtar(Better) Jeevan(Life). It seeks to empower women and protect their health by shifting them from traditional cooking based on unclean cooking fuels or fossil fuels to clean cooking gas. 
  • It is being implemented over three years’ time frame i.e. in the FY 2016-17, 2017-18 and 2018-19 with budgetary allocation of allocated Rs, 8,000 crore announced in the Union Budget 2016.



3)Pneumonia vaccine to be part of immunisation drive:- India on Saturday rolled out the long-awaited anti-pneumonia vaccine as part of the government’s Universal Immunisation Programme (UIP).

The vaccine will protect children against severe forms of pneumococcal disease, such as pneumonia and meningitis.

Name of the Vaccine is :- pneumococcal conjugate vaccine(PCV).

About Pneumonia:- Pneumonia is caused by inflammation of the airspaces in the lungs. It is most commonly due to an infection.

It may be caused by bacteria, viruses or fungi. The most common bacterial type that causes pneumonia is Streptococcus pneumoniae.

Signs and symptoms include fever, chills, cough, shortness of breath, and fatigue.

4)India to skip B&R Forum:- India will be absent from China’s Belt and Road Initiative (B&RI) Forum beginning Sunday.

India has objected to the $46-billion China- Pakistan Economic Corridor part of the B&RI, as it includes projects in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK).
