1)Some Terms Today came with reference to the Triple Talaq Question that is Pending in the Supreme Court.

Polygamy involves marriage with more than one spouse.

  • When a man is married to more than one wife at a time, it is called polygyny
  • When a woman is married to more than one husband at a time, it is called polyandry.

Now We will Give You Some Background of Triple Talaq Issue and the Most important Terms which are relevant from Exams Perspective:-

i)Niqah or Marriage in islam is based on a Contract laid down in a "Niqahnama" which is drawn between the husband and the Wife.

ii) Meher:- Niqahnama has a compulsory consideration’/Payment in the form of money or Possessions to be paid at the time of marriage (by the Man to the wife) , this compulsory payment is called Meher.

iii)Sunnah:- So to explore the question of triple talaq, one must understand that in Islam, everything is followed as per Sunnah (Deeds of the prophet).

Sunnah is the verbally transmitted record of the teachings, deeds and sayings, silent permissions (or disapprovals) of the Islamic prophet Muhammad.

iv)Hence, most Muslim women bodies opposing 'triple talaq’ want the Muslim bodies to adopt ‘Talaq-e-Sunnah’ (Divorce as per the Prophet’s sayings and Quranic dictation) and discard ‘Talaq-e-Biddah’ ( instant divorce).

About AIMPLB:-
The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) is a non-government organisation constituted in 1973 to adopt suitable strategies for the protection and continued applicability of Muslim Personal Law in India, most importantly, the Muslim Personal Law (Shariat) Application Act of 1937

2)GEAC Gave Approval for GM - Mustard:- The approval has been given for Four Years with some conditions.

Some Most Important Points related to this :-

i) GM Mustard:- Since Mustard can not be Hybridised as it is a Self Pollinating plant having both male and Female reproductive parts in a single flower.

So Researchers have used BARNASE/BARSTAR Technology for Genetic Modification.

A barnase gene is isolated from a soil bacterium called Bacillus amyloliquefaciens.

Researchers and promoters of GM Mustard argue that India imports Rs.60,000 crore worth of edible oils every year. So there is a need to reduce the dependability.

ii)DMH-11:- DMH (Dhara Mustard Hybrid)-11 is genetically modified variety of mustard developed by Centre for Genetic Manipulation of Crop Plants at Delhi University. It was Government sponsored project.

It is Herbicide Tolerant (HT) crop.

DMH-11 yields about 30% more than a traditional reference mustard variety.
