2)ICJ stays sentence in Jadhav case :- New Delhi won a stay order from the International Court of Justice at The Hague. In its petition, India had accused Pakistan of gross violations of international laws.

All About The International Court of Justice aka World Court  is the primary judicial branch of the United Nations (UN).

Headquartered in The Hague, Netherlands,

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) is the principal judicial organ of the United Nations (UN). It was established in June 1945 by the Charter of the United Nations and began work in April 1946.


  • The seat of the Court is at the Peace Palace in The Hague (Netherlands).
  • Of the six principal organs of the United Nations, it is the only one not located in New York (United States of America).
  • The Court’s role is to settle, in accordance with international law, legal disputes submitted to it by States and to give advisory opinions on legal questions referred to it by authorized United Nations organs and specialized agencies.

The Court is composed of 15 judges, who are elected for terms of office of nine years by the United Nations General Assembly and the Security Council. It is assisted by a Registry, its administrative organ. Its official languages are English and French.

Jurisdiction:
As stated in the UN Charter, all 193 UN members are automatically parties to the Court’s statute. Non-UN members may also become parties to the Court’s statute. Once a state is a party to the Court’s statute, it is entitled to participate in cases before the Court. However, being a party to the statute does not automatically give the Court jurisdiction over disputes involving those parties.

4)Kabini Backwaters were in News because of Severe Drought like Situation.

What is a Backwater:- Backwater is water turned back in its course by an obstruction on opposing current .

The Kerala backwaters are a chain of brackish lagoons and lakes lying parallel to the Arabian Sea coast (known as the Malabar Coast) of Kerala state in southern India.

Kabini River:-  It originates in the Wayanad District of Kerala state  It flows eastward to join the Kaveri River at Tirumakudalu Narasipura in Karnataka.

Therefore Kabini or kapila is a tributary of Kaveri.

5)‘Tallest bridge built can withstand blasts’ :- Yesterday we told you about the Tallest Bridge that is going to come up at the River Chenab.

Adding on to that some New Facts have opened up:-

It is a Railway Arch Bridge to Provide the Railway Connectivity to Jammu and Kashmir.

Konkan Railway is executing the Proect.

This is for the first time globally that a bridge is designed to handle high level trinitrotoluene (TNT)(A Chemical used for making Explosives) blast load.

The construction work of the Chenab Bridge – declared as a national project — was awarded in August 2004.



6) Lapiz Lazuli Corridor:- The Lapis Lazuli corridor connects Afghanistan through Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia to the Black Sea and ultimately through Turkey to the Mediterranean Sea and Europe.

Remember that India is not a Party to this Lapiz Lazuli Corridor.

Durig Harappan Time , India used to Import its Lapiz Lazuli from Afghanistan.

What is Lapiz Lazuli :- Lapis lazuli or lapis for short, is a deep blue metamorphic rock used as a semi-precious stone
