1)Election Commission seeks funds for paper trail units:= 

Background:= 
i) Serious Objections on the use of EVM's.

ii)prevailing environment,” to facilitate procurement of VVPAT (voter verifiable paper audit trail) machines for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

About VVPAT := In Order to give the Feedback to the Voters that their votes have gone to the intended Party/Candidates , a Printout will come after voting which will have the Name of the Candidate and Party Symbol. It will Remain for 7 Seconds and then it will fall in a box which will be accessed by Authorized Personnels only.


2)GNFC to facilitate digital transition of residential townships:= The NITI Aayog has appointed
the State-owned Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertilizers & Chemicals Limited (GNFC) as the nodal agency to facilitate digital transition of residential townships across the country.

Why ?:= After Demonetization GNFC’s township in Bharuch was the first residential colony to adopt digital modes of payments. So NITI AAyog was impressed by this initiative.

3)IITs to introduce 4% more seats for girl students:=The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) will add more seats to be filled by girl students for four years starting 2018 to increase the representation of women in the prestigious institutions.

Upto When This Practice will Continue:= While there are just eight percent women in the IITs right now, the idea is to increase the proportion to 20 per cent and then discontinue the practice of additional seats for women.


4)The China-Nepal exercise, “Sagarmatha Friendship – 2017” began yesterday.
This is China's First Ever Military exercise with Nepal.

5)Centre links two NGOs to Maoists:= The Niyamgiri Suraksha Samiti (NSS) in Odisha and the Visthapan Virodhi Jan Vikas Andolan (VVJVA) in Jharkhand are the organisations.

6)Erdogan poised to win referendum :=
Background:= Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan announced earlier that there is a need to move towards the Presidential System with President having Sweeping Powers.

The Referendum was done for that. Yesterday the Ballots were opened and in that Erdogan is all set to win the Referendum.(almost won because 98.2% ballots have already Opened and "YES" Votes were 51.3%, so with a very narrow majority Erdogan will win the referendum.

If approved, the office of the Prime Minister would be abolished and the existing parliamentary system of government would be replaced with an executive presidency and a presidential system.

7)Wind Power in India:= For the first time, wind power installations (windmills) crossed the 5 Gigawatt mark, to reach 5,400 MW in 2016-17.

India, with 32,280 MW, has the fourth biggest capacity in the world, after China, the U.S. and Germany.

The national target is 60 GW by 2022. Wind accounts for 10% of India’s total power capacity of 3.2 lakh MW.

For many years, it existed only in T.N., the windiest State. In the last decade, it spread to 8 other States that have any wind potential — four other southern states(Kerala, KN, Andhra,Telangana), M.P., Maharashtra, Gujarat and Rajasthan.

8)Trial run of ‘vistadome’ coach conducted:= Shri Prabhu dedicated Visatadome Coach at Visakhapatnam.

They have new glass coaches with Glass Roofs.
