1)Pak. court awards death to Indian:- 

What has Happened:- A Pakistani military court on Monday sentenced to death a former Indian Navy official, Kulbhushan Jadhav, accusing him of espionage and working for the India’s external intelligence agency, R&AW.

Can Kubhushan Make an Appeal ??:- Yes but the scope of Review/Appeal is very limited in Pakistan because again the Appeal will be heard by Military officials of Higher Rank.


2)Digital boost for Sindhi:-> 
What has happened? := In a major step aimed at conserving and disseminating the Sindhi language, the National Council for Promotion of Sindhi Language (NCPSL), affiliated with the Union HRD Ministry, on Monday released software tools and eBooks developed by the city-based Centre for development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) in order to adapt Sindhi into the digital medium.

Some Facts about Sindhi ?:- Sindhi is one of the 22 Languages of the Eighth Schedule and as added in 1967 by the 21st Constitutional Amendment Act.

So this is the 50th Years since it was added in the 8th Schedule.
It is a very Rich language and is also known as the most ‘oxygenated language’.

Lingaraja Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Harihara, a form of Shiva and Vishnu.



4)Aadhaar must for access to Survey of India maps:= 
Background:=The Survey of India, the country’s oldest scientific organisation  has set up a web portal called "Nakshe" to commemorate the 250th Anniversary of the Survey of India.

So What has Happened?:= Now one would require Aadhar Number in order to access these maps.

The SoI maps —prepared for defence and civilian purposes. 
Intention behind this Move?:= It is to ensure that only Indians reach the portal.

Some Additional Facts about the Survey of India :- 
i) It was established in 1767
ii)Height of the Mount Everest is also measured by Survey of India. (Which was done last time in 1855). It has proposed for the Remeasurement of the Height of Mt. Everest.
iii) It is headed by Surveyor General of India.


5)Govt. to get tough on traffic offences:- 
What has happened :- Govt. has introduced a new Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill 2016 which will tighten the Penal Provisions for Traffic ViolationsThis Bill will amend the Motor Vehicles Act 1988.

Some Provisions under the Amendment Bill:-

i)Increase the penalty for traffic iolations:= Similarly, for over-speeding, the penalty may go up to ₹1,000- 2,000 from ₹400. Not wearing seatbelts would result in a minimum penalty of ₹1,000 against ₹100 at present. The traffic violation penalties will also increase 10% each year once the Bill becomes a law.

ii)allow learner’s driving licences to be issued online

iii)penalise contractors for faulty road designs.

iv)The proposed law will also allow citizens to apply or renew a driving licence from any road transport office in the State. At present, citizens can only apply at the closest RTO.

v)The Centre also plans to make submission of Aadhaar number mandatory for applying for a driving licence and vehicle registration by making an enabling provision in the Bill.



6)‘Zero recovery’ for damaged corals:-
Background:- Recently because of the Rising Temperature, Consecutively for the Second year there was mass Coral bleaching was seen in the Great Berrier Reef.

Some Important Facts that came out from the News :=

i) Bleached Corals are not Dead Corals.
ii)Recovery can take place but even the fastest Growing Corals take at least a decade to recover. SO that means recovery is a very slow process.

About Great Berrier Reef:- The Great Barrier Reef is the world's largest coral reef system.
The reef is located in the Coral Sea, off the coast of Queensland, Australia.

7)ShodhGanga( taken From PIB) :-  It is "A reservoir of Indian Theses".
The Shodhganga@INFLIBNET Centre provides a platform for research students to deposit their Ph.D. theses and make it available to the entire scholarly community in open access.

8)Unnat Bharat Abhiyan:- Launched by the Ministry of HRD, GOI with IIT - Delhi as the Co-ordinating Institute.
