1)Ties severely damaged, says China:- 
Background:- India allowed the visit of Dalai Lama to Arunachal Pradesh inspite of objections from China.

Why China is Not in favour of Arunachal Visit of Daai Lama:- Arunachal Pradesh is at the heart of the Sino-Indian boundary dispute in the eastern sector.

The dispute in this zone is over territory south of the McMahon Line in Arunachal Pradesh, which includes Tawang — which is on the Dalai Lama’s itinerary.



The McMahon Line was the result of the 1914 Simla Convention, between British India and Tibet, and was rejected by China.

About Tawang :- Tawang was historically part of Tibet inhabited by the Monpa people.
By the 1914 Shimla Accord , Along with the McMahon Line Tibet also relinquished some of its Territory to the British (indirectly to India) but China does not accept this treaty.

2)Rail regulator gets green light:- 
Name of the Regulator :- Rail Development Authority  (RDA), which will be based in New Delhi.

About Rail Development Authority := It will be an independent rail regulator that will be responsible for recommending passenger fares, setting performance standards for rail operations and creating level playing policy for private sector participation.

It will be set up through an executive order later this month. 

The RDA will act within the parameters of the Railway Act, 1989 and only make recommendations to the Ministry which will take a final call on passenger and freight fares.

The need for a regulator has been emphasised by various committees, including the Dr. Bibek Debroy Committee on Mobilisation of Resources for Major Railway Projects.

3)Explorations of religion and globalisation in Konkani:- Suresh G. Amonkar, an educationalist
and writer, released two of his books, Christha Purana and Goenchem Savasarikikaran, in Panaji last week. The books are written in Konkani and deal with religion and globalisation.

Christha Purana, an epic poem on the life of Jesus Christ, was originally written in 1616 in Rachol, Goa, by Jesuit priest Father Thomas Stephen.

4)Safety measures intensiied in Goa following monkey fever scare:- The Goa Health Services have intensified fever surveillance and other precautionary measures in areas near North Goa’s border, adjacent to Maharashtra’s Sindhudurg district, following rise in deaths due to Kyasanur Forest Disease (KFD) or monkey fever.

6)Taj changing colour, mud therapy being used: govt:- 

Background:- Why this Change in Colour?:- 
i)Due to Prevalent Pollution in Agra and Poor Air Quality. Dust Dirt etc.
ii)Pollution Coming from the Mathura Refinery
iii)Acid Rain is also one of the reason because Acid reacts with the calcium Carbonate.
iv)Impact of Insects on the Monument

What did the Govt. say :- A kind of mud therapy is being used on Taj Mahal as the white marble structure is changing colour, the government told the Rajya Sabha.

Culture minister Mahesh Sharma said a kind of mud therapy, involving application of a paste of ‘multani mitti’, was being undertaken to preserve the colour of the monument. It has been applied on three-fourths of the structure and is “showing results”.

7)Bihar, Jharkhand children ‘undernourished,’ says NGO:- 
What is the name of the NGO:- Child Rights and  You (CRY)

What has been said by CRY :- In Bihar and Jharkhand, 9 out of every 10 children aged 6-23 do not get an adequate diet. The nutrition and health status of children in these two States has been found to be “critically low” in comparison to the national standard.

Malnourishment in early years is directly linked to maternal health…only 3.3% of mothers in Bihar and 8% of mothers in Jharkhand had access to full antenatal care services".

The analysis also observed that almost two-thirds of children (63.5% in Bihar and 69.9% in Jharkhand) aged 6- 59 months were suffering from acute anaemia.
The prevalence of anaemia among a high percentage of pregnant women in the agegroup of 15-49 years (62.6% in Jharkhand and 58.3% in Bihar)

8)123rd Constitutional Amendment Bill Introduced in the Lok Sabha :-

Why the bill has been introduced:-For setting up of National Commission for Socially and Educationally Backward Classes replacing the National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC).

National Commission for Socially and educationally backward classes will be a Constitutional Body unlike the earlier NCBC which was a statutory body.

The proposed commission will have a chairperson, vicechairperson and three other members and will hear the grievances of socially and educationally backward classes.

9)India asserts sovereignty over Gilgit-Baltistan:-
Background:- Recently there was a News that Pakistan is going to declare Gilgit-Baltistan as its new Province.

In response to that MEA (Sushma Swaraj)said India would not part with any part of its territory. “Even raising a doubt over this government, that it will let go of some area, will be wrong,”.

History of Gilgit-Baltistan Region:- The region was a part of the erstwhile princely state of Jammu and Kashmir, but has been under Pakistan’s control since November 4, 1947, following the invasion of Kashmir by tribal militias and the Pakistan army.
The region was renamed ‘The Northern Areas of Pakistan’, and put under the direct control of Islamabad.
