1)First woman combat officer:-Tanushree Pareek has become the first woman combat officer to be commissioned in the 51-year history of the Border Security Force.

She was Selected in the CAPF Examination of 2014 Conducted by UPSC.

About Border Security Force:-
 It is one of the five Central Armed Police Forces of the Union of India, it was raised in the wake of the 1965 War on 1 December 1965, "for ensuring the security of the borders of India

It is under the Ministry of Home Affairs.

2)World's largest 'artificial sun' shines brightly for the first time:-
Scientists in Germany now have 'sunlight' at the touch of a button having successfully turned on the world's biggest solar simulator for the first time.

The artificial light, which has been created from 149 powerful short-arc lamps, has just been tested out at the German Aerospace Center (DLR).

The aim of the experiment is to improve the production processes for solar fuels, including hydrogen, which they believe will be an important renewable energy source in the future.

3)Down Syndrome :

In humans, each cell normally contains 23 pairs of chromosomes, for a total of 46.
Twenty-two of these pairs, called autosomes, look the same in both males and females. The 23rd pair, the sex chromosomes, differ between males and females.

Down syndrome (DS or DNS), also known as trisomy 21, is a genetic disorder caused by the presence of all or part of a third copy of chromosome 21.



It is typically associated with physical growth delays, characteristic facial features and mild to moderate intellectual disability.

4)India ranks 87th on energy architecture performance: World Economic Forum:-

Global energy architecture performance index was recently released by World Economic Forum.

Some Findings of the Index := 


  • India has marginally improved its position to 87th place this year. India’s rank improved three places from 90th last year. India ranks among the worst in the world for pollution.


  • A large percentage of the population still lacks access to electricity (101st) and uses solid fuels for cooking (108th).


  • Switzerland topped the annual list and was followed by Norway, Sweden, Denmark and France in the top five.


5)National Commission for Socially and Educationally Backward Classes Gets Approved By Cabinet :-

The Union cabinet has approved setting up of National Commission for Socially and Educationally Backward Classes replacing the National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC).
It will be a Constitutional Body unlike the earlier NCBC which was a statutory body.

This requires amending the Constitution and inserting Article 338B for setting up the new commission.

A bill in this regard will be proposed.

National Commission for Backward Classes(the Body that will be replaced) is an Indian statutory body under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment established on 14 August 1993.

Some Other Constitutional Bodies:-
National Commission for Scheduled Castes (constituted under Article 338) 

and National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (constituted under Article 338A).

6)Egyptian vultures in their nests back in Delhi:-

A flock of 10 Egyptian vultures— which are rarely spotted in the City— has been living on land near the Yamuna since January.

Experts are saying it is a good sign.
