1)Centre seeks banks’ turnaround plans:-

Background : Public sector Banks in India are facing the Problem of Stressed assets and NPA's. In the Past also this Problem was there, but earlier Government used to Infuse a lot of Capital and Funds so that these banks do not stop working and do not perish.

What has happened Now:- Now the Centre has asked 10 Public Sector Banks to submit a time-bound Revival / Turnaround Plan and then only the Govt. will infuse more capital for these banks.

What is Turnaround Plan and Who will Prepare this?:- Turnaround Plan is basically a revival strategy ,so as to get out of the situation of stressed assets and NPA's.
The Govt. wants the Turnaround in the Next 3 years for these 10 PSB's.
This Turnaround Plan will be prepared by State Bank of India's Merchant Banking Arm SBI CAPS.



2)Drug-resistant TB a concern:- 

About TB:- Tuberculosis is a contagious infection caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis and it usually attacks the lungs. It can also spread to other parts of the body like the brain and spine. Tuberculosis is contagious and spreads through the air, much like cold or flu.

Types of TB:-

i)MDR TB (Multi Drug Resistant):- is a form of tuberculosis (TB) infection caused by bacteria that are resistant to treatment with at least two of the most powerful first-line anti-TB medications (drugs), isoniazid and rifampin.

ii)XDR TB (Extensively Drug Resistant TB):- resistant to second-line medications, and are called extensively drug-resistant TB (XDR-TB)

iii)TDR TB (Totally Drug Resistant TB):-Resistant to all the first and second line TB drugs.1 This makes it almost but not totally impossible to treat.

As Per the WHO Report India has the Highest Number of TB cases.

SOME CRITICIMS OF INDIA WRT TB :-
India has come under criticism from the global public health community for giving inaccurate estimates of the tuberculosis burden between 2000 and 2015.

Also It has been said that the Budget Provisions for the Health Ministry are also not Adequate to Fight this Menace.

What are Future Plans:-Meanwhile, the Indian government will soon be releasing the National Strategic Plan for TB Control (2017- 2025), with an overarching framework to achieving the elimination goal.

SO The Target is basically to eliminate TB till 2025.

3)Environment Ministry official to chair animal welfare board:- The Animal Welfare Board ofIndia (AWBI), a statutory advisory body under the Union Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MoEF), will now be permanently chaired by a senior MoEF official

What  was the Usual Practice:- A Person outside the Government was Heading the AWBI.

Why This Move ??:-- Over Jallikattu Issue AWBI and MOEF had difference of Opinion, So Now the Govt. wants to exert its influence over the Functioning of the AWBI.

AWBI is a Body created as per PCA Act 1960. (Prevention o Cruelty to Animals)
Rukmani Devi Arundale Played a Major Role in the Formation of AWBI.
She was also responsible for the Revival of Bharatnatyam.

4)ICHR to study if Ram Setu is man-made or natural.
ICHR is Indian Council of Historical Research.

5)Aadhaar now needed for mobile connection:-The Department of Telecommunications on Friday issued a notification, directing all phone service providers to reverify details for all existing subscribers through Aadhaar-based e-KYC (Know Your Customer) process.

6)Gravitational waves kick out black hole from galactic core:- NASA’s Hubble space telescope has detected a supermassive black hole that has been kicked out of the centre of a distant galaxy by what could be the power of gravitational waves.

Weighing more than one billion suns, the Rogue black hole is the most massive black hole ever detected to have been kicked out of its central home.

7)SWADHAR GREH SCHEME:- In Effect From 1.1.2016

Formed After merger of the two earlier schemes viz. Swadhar and Short Stay Home.

Swadhar Greh Scheme targets the women victims of unfortunate circumstances who are in need of institutional support for rehabilitation so that they could lead their life with dignity.

The Scheme envisages providing shelter, food, clothing and health as well as economic and social security for the women victims of difficult circumstances.

It is implemented by the Ministry of Women and Child Development,
