1)Indian Navy’s survey vessel INS Sarvekshak, based at the Southern Naval Command in Kochi became the first naval ship to go green by installing a solar power system on board.

2)India is planning to host a conference on counter-radicalisation with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in October 2017. It will provide common platform to countries for sharing experiences and ideas on prevention of radicalisation amid rise of Islamic State and other extremist ideologies.

It will mainly deal with the growing IS threat and make effort to counter radicalisation and misuse of religion by groups and countries for inciting hatred and terrorism.

3) India on Saturday successfully test-fired what is hailed as a gen-next state-of-the-art interceptor missile from a defence base off Odisha coast, achieving a significant milestone in its ongoing Ballistic Missile Defence (BMD) programme.

The homegrown anti-ballistic missile, dubbed Prithvi Defence Vehicle (PDV), travels at supersonic speed and is capable of destroying targets at a high altitude of more than 120 km in the exo-atmospheric region.

The interceptor missile was fired  of Abdul Kalam Island (formerly Wheeler Island), a couple of minutes after the target, mimicking an enemy missile, took off from a warship anchored in the Bay of Bengal nearly 70 km off Paradip coast.

Prithvi Defence Vehicle, the interceptor indigenously developed by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), destroyed the target missile at an altitude of 97 km.

Prithvi Defence Vehicle interceptor missile is capable of killing an incoming missile with a strike range of around 2,000 km outside the earth’s atmosphere.

India is the fifth nation in the world to have a robust Ballistic Missile Defence system. Other countries are US, Russia, Israel and China.

4)The Pakistan Navy has kicked of its biannually-held multinational AMAN 2017 naval exercise in Karachi, Pakistan. 37 countries are participating in the international event.

The theme of AMAN 2017 is “together for peace”.

6)India ranked low 43rd among the surveyed 45 nations in 2017 International Intellectual Property Index (IIPI). In this edition, India is just above Pakistan (44th) and Venezuela (45th).

The fifth annual index was released by US Chamber of Commerce’s Global Intellectual Property Centre (GIPC) in its report titled ‘The Roots of Innovation’.

Top 5 Countries in 2017 IIPI: United States (1st), United Kingdom (2nd), Germany (3rd), Japan (4th), Sweden (5th), France (6th), Switzerland (7th), Singapore (8th), South Korea (9th) and Italy (10th).

BRICS countries: China (27th), South Africa (33rd), Brazil (32nd) and Russia (23rd).

7)The National Deworming Day is observed every year on February 10 with main objective to combat parasitic worm infections among preschool and school-age children across India.

National Productivity Day was on 12th Feb.

World Raadio Day : 13th Feb.

8)Indian Blind cricket team won the T20 World Cup in Bengaluru. It is the 2nd time we are winning this world cup. This time we defeated Pakistan in Final.
